Furakoko Shokudo
Furakoko Shokudo
Furakoko Shokudo is a popular Italian restaurant in the southern foothills of the Yatsugatake Mountains. The owner-chef and his family moved here from Tokyo about 10 years ago. The chef, who has been mastering creative Italian cuisine at a café in Toranomon, has longed for a castle of his own. The spacious decades-old Japanese house is divided in half, with the back part as a residence and the front part as a restaurant. The original earthen floor and the shiny black pillars and ceiling were left in place to create an attractive space. While renovating the old house, we also designed the restaurant. A new style of rustic restaurant was born. The table is made using a technique called ‘Chigiri’: a small piece of wood make of zelkova is embedded in Into the holes on the surface of the zelkova table top.
